"Joana Rosa Bragança came from nowhere, and immediately the music of the spheres was and is hers. Endowed with an urgent and vigorous vocabulary, it is with surprise and uneasiness that we come to live with her work. When we observe her impossible procession of people and animals, we see her rubbing shoulders with the fundamental trait of Beatrix Potter, but with the grotesque imperative of Maurice Sendak. Her art would make possible The Wind in the Willows by Edward Gorey and, subtracted from another time, Lord Hulot goes on vacation once more. Joana Rosa announces a lyrical and convulsive universe, at times picaresque, at other times hirsute and revolted. But always ironic and deeply critical. There is a humor and a rumor here from a parallel universe. Joana Rosa actually didn't come from nowhere, she comes from a wonderful and unknown world that inhabits the shadows of everyday life. And watches us. And that desires us in the form of a drawing."
